I started sketching top views of the city layout and front views of buildings to help inform the overall shape language. The city would be viewed from multiple angles, with the most common view being underneath from the ground. Therefore I knew the silhouette likely needed to be a basic primitive that would read from hundreds of miles away.
I then selected several top views and translated it into different versions of elevations in perspective line sketch. I was exploring which parts of the top view should be extruded.
Now that the basic silhouette was decided, it was time to drill down and get more specific with the forms. I was simultaneously working on the overall visual language for brand and UI, and these architectural concepts were needed to directly inform that visual language.
I approached both the Exalted City and the main city together, as I wanted them to have similar visual language.
These designs directly informed the overall brand language of the project.
