The Divine City

Original IP Visual Development

DivineCityHeader_01.jpg

The Divine City floats above the realms of the Lootverse. It is the metaphorical starting point for storytelling within the Divine Lootverse, and its development served two purposes:

1) It established a visual foundation for original IP within the Lootverse

2) It helped create a visual language to extract elements for the overall Divine Loot design system

The following case study shows the step-by-step development of a concept-based theme meant to establish a lockstep pipeline for all visual design within the Divine ecosystem.

Visual Exploration

Initial Architectural Forms

I started sketching top views of the city layout and front views of buildings to help inform the overall shape language. The city would be viewed from multiple angles, with the most common view being underneath from the ground. Therefore I knew the silhouette likely needed to be a basic primitive that would read from hundreds of miles away.

I then selected several top views and translated it into different versions of elevations in perspective line sketch. I was exploring which parts of the top view should be extruded.

Now that the basic silhouette was decided, it was time to drill down and get more specific with the forms. I was simultaneously working on the overall visual language for brand and UI, and these architectural concepts were needed to directly inform that visual language.

Visual Refinement

Refining the Architecture

I approached both the Exalted City and the main city together, as I wanted them to have similar visual language.

These designs directly informed the overall brand language of the project.

Divine Characters

Original IP Visual Development

Prodigy_Closeup_01.jpg

Early on in the formative days of the Divine City stories, the characters existed primarily as attributes described in the Loot bag NFTs. So it was really an open canvas in terms of visual exploration for characters such as the Mage Queen, the Prodigy, and other mages, warriors, hunters and wanderers.
